Jones, Charles Allen, age 73, a resident of Columbiana, AL passed away on Tuesday, August 14, 2012. Funeral services will be 2 p.m., Friday, August 17, 2012 at Bolton Funeral Home with Rev. Richard Horton and Rev. Roland Foster officiating. Burial will follow in Pinelawn Gardens. Visitation is one hour prior to the service at Bolton Funeral Home, Columbiana. Charles served in the Army Reserve and National Guard. He retired from CSX Transportation where he was instrumental in the establishment of the CSX Tressel which crosses Hwy 25 and supplies coal directly to EC Gaston Steam Plant in Wilsonville. Early in his life, he lettered in all sports at SCHS, coached community baseball, served as member and President of Kiwanis Club and Shelby County Cattlemen’s Association. He was an avid fan of the Yankees and Alabama football and basketball. Throughout his lifetime, he enjoyed farming and raising cattle. His greatest joy in his retirement was spending time with his two grandchildren every day. Mr. Jones is survived by his wife, Betty Jones; son, Allen (Penny) Jones; Ashley (Michael) Venable; grandchildren, Mallory, Luke; sister, Peggy (Jim) Lee; brother, Jimmy Jones; sister-in-law, Doris (John) Isbell and many nieces, nephews and other family and friends.
