Bernadette Marie Tabor Conover

Bernadette Marie Tabor Conover, “Bernie” as she was called, was reunited with her loved ones in heaven today, September 13, 2022. Born on December 23, 1935 in Chicago, Illinois to her Polish immigrant parents, Casmira and Stanley Tabor, she was the baby of the family and the apple of her father's eye. Bernie was doted on by her older sister and brother, Janet and Henry, who were so very dear to her. Her parents ran a Polish grocery store on Central Avenue and she had many fond memories of playing in the store and running free around her Chicago neighborhood. She attended Catholic schools and upon graduation, went to work at General Electric in Chicago. It was there she caught the eye of a young engineer, Ralph John Conover, Jr. He was smitten with one look and they were married within a year, on May 26, 1958 (even though he wasn't Polish). Mom and Dad remained devoted to each other and even after dad's death, on August 9, 2021, mom's love for him remained present. Together they raised us five children with unlimited love and support. Mom was the consummate wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Her gift in this world was making a home where all felt loved and welcome. Her children and grandchildren carry with them wonderful memories of late-night baking, low country boils, and countless family celebrations. Mom is survived by her children: Larry (Susan); Trish (Greg) and their children Joey, Bern and Jack; Lynne and her children Alex and angel Savannah; Chris and his son Alex; and Anne (Keye) and their children Brittni (DJ), Hudson and Maddie. Brittni and DJ also blessed mom with her beautiful great-granddaughter, Hayden. Future great-grandchildren will hear many stories of their wonderful Nana and Papa. The writer would also like to thank her sister, Anne, along with her husband and family. Anne was by Dad and Mom's side for most of her life and not only provided day to day support to them, but also provided them with so many wonderful adventures. Especially of note were the yearly longest yard sales in the world. Who knew so much fun could be had traveling the back roads of Alabama? Mom made us all feel so very special and for that we are eternally grateful. We take solace in knowing she and Dad are together again and Savannah is keeping them in stitches...or showing them the latest dance moves. Mom and Dad, thank you for our lives. We carry you with us always and look forward to when we see you again.
