Cody J Thompson Sr.

Cody Joseph Thompson, Sr. of Columbiana, AL, passed away on January 10, 2026, at the age of 61, in the comfort of his home, embraced by the love of his family. Born on December 14, 1964, in Birmingham, AL, Cody's memory will forever be cherished. He is survived by his loving wife, Kristal Mooney Thompson; his devoted sons, Cody Joseph (Joe) Thompson, Jr. (Anissa), Thomas (Tommy) Thompson (Katrina), and Blake Mooney (Jordan); his daughter, Katie Thompson; his bonus daughter, Maribal Cruz; and his adoring grandchildren, Jasmine Thompson, Christian Thompson, Makenna Mooney, and Ryleigh-Gail Mooney, and multiple siblings. Cody was preceded in death by his parents, Cody Etsel Thompson, Jr. and Verna Lois Lairmer Thompson and grandparents, who we know welcomed him with open arms. Cody lived a long and adventurous life, filled with stories he’d share with anyone who would listen. He found great joy in riding his motorcycle on sunny days and exploring the trails of Oak Mountain State Park and Beeswax Creek Park with his beloved grandchildren. Known for his playful spirit, Cody loved playing pranks, making jokes, and sharing his passion for music by playing the guitar and singing with his family. He also enjoyed hunting and fishing, finding solace in nature's embrace. Cody's passions were as vibrant as his spirit. He loved the world of racing, he loved NASCAR races and he enjoyed Talladega Superspeedway the most, whether it was watching a race or staying at the campsites. He even accomplished building his own race car that he raced at Birmingham International Raceway. He loved cheering on his beloved Alabama football team. His enthusiasm was infectious. Above all else, Cody's greatest joy came from his grandchildren, who brought immeasurable light and laughter into his life. Towards the end of his life, Cody discovered a new creative outlet, crafting jewelry out of copper for his loved ones to cherish as lasting reminders of his love. Though a formal funeral will not be held at this time, a memorial service will be arranged for close family to celebrate Cody's life and the impact he had on all who knew him. In lieu of flowers, Cody and the family kindly request that donations be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, a cause close to his heart.
