David Bruce Barnes Jr

David B Barnes, Jr, 84, went to his eternal home to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on January 31, 2023. David was born on August 15, 1938 to David B Barnes, Sr and Esther Mae Hill Barnes in Wilson, NC. David graduated from Charles L. Coon High School, Wilson, NC in 1956 and joined the US Air Force and served from 1956 until 1960. He graduated from Atlantic Christian College in 1967 and worked in pharmaceutical sales for 36 years, retiring in 2004. David married Carolyn Short in 1969 and moved to the Raleigh area. They moved to Garner, NC in 1971 and resided there until 2013, when they moved to Chelsea, AL to be near their children and grandchildren. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, February 4, 2023 at 1:00pm at Double Oak Community Church, 115 Olmstead St., Birmingham, AL. Interment will be at Alabama National Cemetery, Montevallo, Alabama at a later date. A memorial service will also be held at a later date at First Baptist Church, Garner, NC where David was a long time member. David is survived by his wife of 54 years: Carolyn Short Barnes; his daughters: Melody Hemphill (Randy) and Rhonda Hill (Brian); his grandchildren: Caleb Hemphill, Brennan Hemphill, Asher Hemphill, Addilyn Hemphill, Kathryn Hill, and Brooklyn Hill; and his sister: Patricia Brie of Polson, Montana. David enjoyed his 6 grandchildren tremendously after moving to Alabama to live near his daughters and their families. He loved to take them fishing, watch them play sports, build with legos, and anything else to spend time with them. David served at FBC Garner as a Sunday School teacher in the Youth Department and as a Deacon. David enjoyed playing golf with the men at his church in Garner after he retired. He also loved serving on the food pantry committee and working on a cooking committee for Wednesday night meals at the church. He was a member of the Senior Adult choir for several years. David worked in pharmaceutical sales for 36 years, becoming friends with many doctors, nurses, pharmacists and their staff. He was a mentor for many new sales representatives over the years and was held in high esteem by them. He won many company awards including President's Club twice, which was their most prestigious award. David enjoyed working in his yard by mowing grass, growing roses, and planting various other flowers. He also enjoyed bird watching, especially hummingbirds.
