Joseph Benton Stroud

Joseph Benton Stroud, age 53, of Columbiana passed away Wednesday June 11, 2025. Joseph was born in Oxford, Alabama on May 23,1972 to the late Charles and Betty Benton Stroud. He spent the first seven years of his life in Columbiana while his father pastored and his mother sang in the choir at First Baptist Church Columbiana. It was here where he met friends for life. His family then moved to Montgomery, Alabama where he met another group of friends at Ridgecrest Baptist Church. His family returned to Columbiana before his junior year of high school where he continued his passion for playing football. There he was introduced to his future wife whom he married August 10, 1996. Graduating from Shelby County High School in 1990, he attended the University of Alabama before transferring to Samford University pursuing a degree in Business and Marketing. After graduating with a BA, Joe was employed with the Birmingham Bulls where his love of sport management began. He later served as Director of Marketing for Samford Athletics. In 1999 he and his wife moved to Madison, Alabama where he would be Vice President/General Manager for the Tennessee Valley Vipers Arena Football team in Huntsville, Alabama. He went on to be a part of three championships won by Tennessee Valley Vipers in 2008, Alabama Hammers in 2013, and Nashville Venom in 2014. In 2017, the Birmingham Bulls were revived and Joe once again was back on board with the team and instrumental in the successful comeback. He went on to become the beloved team president and had a tremendous impact promoting and leading the Bulls to many successful years. Joe was a loving and devoted husband and father. He had great joy in supporting, cheering, and coaching his children, Molly B. and Will the Thrill in all their activities. He was a loving man by all who knew him. Joe is survived by his wife Shelley Stroud, daughter Molly Worcester (Ethan), son Will Stroud, and brother John Stroud (Merrile). Visitation will be held on Monday, June 16 at 10:00am at First Baptist Church Columbiana. Funeral Service will follow at 11:00am. Brother Mike Miller is presiding and Bolton Funeral Home is directing. He will be laid to rest next to his beloved Mother Betty at Columbiana City Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Shelby Baptist Association.
