Samuel Thurman

Samuel Thurman, 66, of Chelsea, Alabama Samuel was a dedicated husband, father, grandfather, and friend. Samuel passed away peacefully with his family by his side on October 24, 2022, after a battle with several medical conditions. Samuel was born on March 4th, 1956, to Billy and Mary Thurman at St. Mary's Hospital in Jacksonville, Florida. Samuel was a very gifted athlete and loved playing football, baseball, and basketball, along with earning his black belt in Taekwondo. Samuel also excelled at water sports and loved spending time in the ocean boating, skiing, fishing, and scuba diving in his youth. Samuel was an extraordinarily hard worker and got his first job at the age of ten. He used that job to fuel his passion for fast cars and purchased his prized Dodge Charger at the age of 16. Samuel graduated from Vero Beach High School. After graduating, Samuel went on to join the Navy where he proudly served for four years. Samuel used the military to go on to study engineering at the University of Florida. After graduating with a Bachelor's in Engineering, Samuel started his 40-plus-year career in engineering. Through hard work and determination, Samuel became extremely successful in the commercial construction industry. Samuel worked for Alabama Power, Fluor, Washington Group, and several other companies in that span. Samuel's favorite pastime was spending time with his family. He made sure to pass down not only his admirable work ethic but also his zest for life. Samuel loved sharing his hobbies with his children whether it was fishing, playing ball, or teaching his kids about the universe. Samuel loved quality time with his kids. Samuel was also an excellent cook and loved making meals for his family. Samuel was loved and admired by his family. He is survived by his children: Jason, Jennifer, Mike, and Rani Thurman; his grandchildren: Maya, Hunter, Hannah, Sawyer, Blakey, Brooklyn, and Willow Thurman; his sister: Lorhetta Humphrey; and his spouse: Kathy Thurman. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to your local little league softball programs in his name. Samuel would be honored to help more kids get outside and play sports with their parents.
