Virginia Poe Minor

Virginia Poe Minor Virginia Minor was born on February 2, 1924 in the farming community southeast of Columbiana known as The Kingdom. She is preceded in death by her husband Woodrow Wilson Minor, by her parents and all her siblings. She is survived by her two daughters Marie M. Lasher and son-in-law Jeffery Lasher of Atlanta and Maureen M. Mayfield and son-in-law Tommy Mayfield of Chelsea; grandchildren Jennifer Lasher Angell and Peter Angell of London, England; Beth Lasher Gombala and Jeff Gombala of Alexandria, VA, Jason Mayfield and Erin Mayfield Neblett and Phil Neblett of Chelsea, and many nieces and nephews. Virginia was a faithful member of the Columbiana United Methodist Church and a member of the Women’s Fellowship Sunday School Class. She was one of the last surviving members when it was disbanded in 2008. She served a three year term on the Board of Trustees, including one year as Secretary. She was actively involved in the Shelby County Extension Program. Here she honed in on her sewing talent making dresses, skirts, and blouses as well as drapes. In November 1951 Virginia found her passion as an independent sales representative with the Avon Company. For over 57 years, she was known in Columbiana and the surrounding area of Shelby County as the “Avon Lady”. Through the years, she grew her business from the initial 5 to over 500 customers. Her enthusiasm for the job never left her. “My love for cosmetics and my love for people make the job fun... I call this my ministry because a lot of people I see just need someone to listen. I want to be a good listener and I have many good memories from my customers”. She was a lifetime member of Avon’s prestigious Presidents Club and was later inducted into the Rose Circle within Avon Products, a level only the most outstanding Representatives have attained. Our family is thankful for the care given by Dr. Rhonda Carter, by Comfort Care Hospice and by our special care givers for their kind and compassionate service to Mrs. Minor. The Minor family will receive friends at the Columbiana United Methodist at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, January 23, 2013. The funeral service will be held at the Columbiana United Methodist Church at 11:00 a.m. immediately following visitation. The Reverends Lloyd Gibbs and Pete Grice will conduct the service.
