Betty Lyon Rush Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

Rush, Betty Lyon, age 92, of Madison, passed away on October 11, 2020. The visitation will be from 1:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m., Friday, October 16, 2020 at First Baptist Church of Columbiana. The funeral service will follow at 2:00 p.m. at the church with Rev. Will Faulkenberry officiating. Burial will follow at Columbiana City Cemetery. Bolton Funeral Home is directing. She was born July 7, 1928 in Birmingham, Alabama to Elizabeth Brasher Lyon and Breman B. Lyon. She was the oldest of three children. She had a sister: Peggy Ann Lyon Edwards; and a brother: Joe B. Lyon. She attended Woodrow Wilson Elementary School in Birmingham and her family moved to Shelby County, Alabama right before she entered high school. She attended Shelby County High School, where she was cheerleader, Homecoming Queen, and Miss Shelby County High. She married T.C. Rush, Jr on April 12, 1946. They had three children: two boys and one girl. She was an active member of First Baptist Church of Columbiana, then Vinesville Baptist Church, after moving to Birmingham, Alabama. She taught Sunday School for over 50 years, as well as Bible studies, prayer groups, WMU and sang in the choir. She also sang solos at church, weddings, funerals, and community and school events. Betty loved her Lord and her passion was to serve Him as long as she was able. After the Lord, her whole life was her family. They brought her so much joy and she loved them more than anything. She was a very passionate person and she touched many lives. Everyone who knew her, loved her. Mrs. Rush is preceded in death by her husband: T.C. Rush, Jr.; son: Tommy Rush; parents: Breman B. and Elizabeth Lyon; sister: Peggy Lyon Edwards; and brother: Joe Lyon. She is survived by her son: Kent Rush; daughter: Mary Stewart (Mike); grandchildren: Shayne Rush (Paula), Shelley Rush Butler (Steven), Jessica Rush Carlisle (Leslie), Missy Stewart Faulkenberry (Will), Tera Rush Thomas (Brian), Melody Stewart Metoyer (Joe), Michael Stewart (Sarah), and Scotty Bennett; 18 beloved great grandchildren; niece: Carol Edwards Bradford (Doug); sister-in-laws: Barbara Lyon and Linda Plylar.
