Billy Ray Cox

Billy Ray Cox, 72, of Columbiana, passed away peacefully on March 4, 2024 in his home, surrounded by family. Born on April 18, 1951, Billy Ray Cox was initially in construction, but adored iron work and continually worked his trade. Beloved widower to Alma Joyce Cox, father to Christie, Wade, Nathan, and Warren, brother to Lamar, Lynn, and Violet, grandfather to several, great grandfather to even more, and an amazing Man of God to everyone! Billy Ray Cox lived a life characterized by the love he had for others. It was not uncommon for Mr. Cox to help someone he did not know or jump in when someone he loved was suffering. Mr. Wade Matthew Cox describes a fondness in how his father saw God in everything. While remembering his father, he described a time when Mr. Billy Ray Cox and his wife, Ms. Joyce Cox, saw an accident on I-65. When most people would keep driving and comment on how terrible the scene was, the two pulled over and extended their hands out the window, praying for god’s comfort for the individuals involved. The family reported that their father prided himself on the year he became saved in 2005, completely dedicating his life to god’s purpose. Mr. Billy Ray Cox’s children stated that his biggest accomplishment was being and becoming a good man, although this may seem simple to some, it was a task he took seriously in ensuring his children knew they were loved and could always come home. In his free time, Billy Ray Cox enjoyed fishing, watching western and sci-fi movies, and spending time with as many friends and family that he could, bringing joy to those around him. He was known for cutting up, often drying all sense of seriousness up in a room. Billy Ray Cox is survived by his children: David and Christie Heideman, Wade Cox, Warren and Tonya Martin, Nathan and Cindy Martin; 11 grandchildren; 25 great grandchildren; brother: Lamar; sisters: Violet and Lynn; as well as umpteen nieces and nephews. He will be dearly missed by his family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing him. A celebration of life will be held at Cornerstone Church, in Helena, AL on March 14, 2024 at 11:00 AM. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to a mission to help God’s people, a cause that was close to Billy Ray Cox's heart. The family would like to express their gratitude for the support and condolences during this difficult time.
