Daniel D Davis

Daniel D. Davis, 83, of Chelsea, AL, passed away peacefully on Monday, November 3, 2025 in Columbiana, AL. He was born to Earmon C. and Bonnie Vanderslice Davis on June 3, 1942 in Saginaw AL. He attended Jones Valley High School in Powderly, where he met his lifelong love, Dana Colwell. He joined the United States Air Force after high school, eagerly waiting to marry Dana after her graduation; they married June 23, 1962. They were happily married 63 years upon his passing. He attended the University of Maryland at Guam and Jefferson State College, studying Business Administration. He was a member of Shannon First Baptist Church. He loved a good gospel singing! Dan was very social and never met a stranger. He was always involved with the community where he lived, whether in the mining camps, high school sports, being a little league football & baseball coaches in Midfield, being an Assistant Scoutmaster in Chelsea, being involved with his children’s school activities or church. He knew that youth need positive role models, as they are the future. Dan was an avid gardener, giving away much of what he tirelessly tended and grew (except the sacred okra!). He also loved Alabama football, golfing, hunting and fishing. He knew Birmingham like the back of his hand. He loved to hike the old mining areas with friends and could talk about the ore mines for hours on end. He was medically retired from USAF in 1964 and began his civil service career at Social Security Administration, retiring in 1994. He moved the family to Chelsea in 1976. Dan and Dana had 3 children: Danette Fox (deceased 2025) (Mark); Judi Pickrell (Traye); and Daniel Scott Davis (Callie). They have 6 grandchildren: Rachel Fox, Laura Fox, Catherine Fox, Alex Pickrell, Sydney Davis and Cullen Davis. They have 1 great granddaughter, Avery Pickrell. He is survived by his loving wife, Dana Colwell Davis of Chelsea , AL; daughter Judi Pickrell of Chesapeake, VA and son Daniel Scott Davis of Canton, GA. He is predeceased by his oldest daughter, Danette Fox of Marbury, AL. He is also predeceased by his parent, Earmon and Bonnie Davis, and brother, Ray Davis. The family will receive friends and family on Thursday, November 13, 2025, 11AM at Bolton Funeral Home, 207 Hwy 47, Columbiana AL. Service will begin at 12pm, delivered by Reverend Tom Hannah of Shannon First Baptist Church. Interment will be at 2PM, Alabama National Veterans Cemetery, 3133 Hwy 119, Montevallo, AL with full military honors.
